Katie West

Hi I’m Katie, I’m a former Kindergarten teacher. My Barre journey didn’t start until much later in life, but it truly gave me my life back! I’ve always considered myself a fairly active person, but all of that changed drastically 12 years ago. Due to scoliosis I underwent a 9 hour double spinal fusion surgery. The recovery was very challenging, basically learning to walk again all while raising 2 small girls at the time. Faced with new limitations physically, I no longer felt confident to go to the gym or do any kind of workout classes. As the years went by my health suffered greatly. I continued to gain weight and no longer recognized the person I’d become. I knew I needed to make changes but didn’t know where to start. My oldest daughter had just started teaching Barre classes and encouraged me to just try a class. I was too embarrassed to go in person so she began doing classes for me at home. It was rough at first and I needed every modification just to make it through the class. But slowly I started to see and feel my body changing. It brought back my confidence and I was able to go take in person classes. Over 200 Barre classes later and 100 lbs lost, I’ve never felt better or stronger!! So I decided why not combine my love of teaching with the thing I’m most passionate about and become a certified Barre teacher! I’m so grateful I found something I love doing that makes me better. Barre works for ALL bodies and I’m so excited to help others experience the transformative power of Barre for themselves.
